Responsibilities • Utilize NASA Earthdata— primarily EMIT, ECOSTRESS, and potentially PACE—to assess ecological conditions and support applied conservation goals • Contribute to cutting-edge research and make a tangible impact on ecosystem health and functionality in Southern Africa • Engage with prospective collaborators in the region • Detect and study invasive alien plants • Study fire regime disruption • Monitor occurrence of soil erosion • Analyze spatial and temporal variation in biocrusts • Evaluate changes in ecosystem health and functionality Skills • PhD in: Environmental Science, Earth System Science, Hydrology, Physics, or a related field • Strong scientific background • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English • Detail oriented • Ability to work both independently and in close collaboration with others • Excellent abilities in programming (Matlab, Python, or similar) • Familiar with processing big data • Interest in working on an applied science project • Prior experience of working with existing satellite data Company Overview • ORAU provides innovative scientific and technical solutions to advance research and education, protect public health and the environment and strengthen national security.
