About the position The Global Real Estate Energy and Sustainability team champions efforts to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions across Verizon. The Senior Manager - Global Energy Markets & Emerging Technologies carries out broad and complex assignments requiring comprehensive knowledge of energy markets, energy procurement, risk mitigation strategies, renewable energy purchasing, and corporate sustainability to achieve corporate goals. Monitoring global energy and renewable energy markets, short and long term market trends and their impact on GN&T and Global Real Estate budgets. Analyzing trends and regulations in the energy space to proactively identify, develop and implement risk management and hedging strategies. Conducting Value at Risk analyses for potential hedges and track actual hedge performance against market price. Negotiating and executing $250M+ in electrical supply and $20M+ in natural gas contracts annually to reduce cost and minimize risk. Managing Verizon external energy commodity brokers (ENGIE Insight). Developing integrated budgets and monthly variance analysis for all regulated utility accounts and deregulated supply accounts. Communicating to Senior leadership on regulatory issues that could impact future energy prices. Partnering with Verizon Global Services Data & Analytics team on various projects to improve Verizon's visibility of impacts from future energy price movements. Assisting Treasury and Corporate Sustainability in the planning and implementation of Verizon's renewable energy and carbon neutrality goals. Maintaining working knowledge of and relationships with top energy suppliers and utilities. Evaluating emerging technologies such as, battery storage, front of the meter utility scale distributed energy resources, virtual power plants, real-time metering, etc. and develop strategic roadmap for how they might fit within Verizon. Applying critical thinking skills and work independently to make sound business decisions on behalf of the company. Responsibilities • Monitor global energy and renewable energy markets and analyze their impact on budgets. • Analyze trends and regulations in the energy space to develop risk management strategies. • Conduct Value at Risk analyses for potential hedges and track hedge performance. • Negotiate and execute contracts for electrical supply and natural gas to reduce costs. • Manage external energy commodity brokers. • Develop integrated budgets and perform monthly variance analysis for utility accounts. • Communicate regulatory issues to Senior leadership. • Partner with Data & Analytics team on projects related to energy price impacts. • Assist in planning and implementing renewable energy and carbon neutrality goals. • Evaluate emerging technologies and develop strategic roadmaps. Requirements • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience. • Six or more years of relevant experience in energy purchasing and management. • Experience in RFP processes and knowledge of sourcing policies. • Experience leading cross-functional teams. • Experience in data analysis and supplier assessment. • Proficiency in G-Suite and MS Office. • Experience in resolving complex problems creatively. • Experience in selecting methods and evaluation criteria for new technology. Nice-to-haves • Master's degree (MBA) or equivalent. • Strong understanding of the energy supply and services marketplace. • Knowledge of energy commodity purchasing and risk management practices. • Knowledge of regulated utility rates and tariff analysis. • Previous experience in the utility or energy industry. • Knowledge of energy management and policy. • Experience in developing analytical and predictive models. • Proficiency in big data analysis tools like Power BI, Tableau, Python. • Strong leadership and analytical skills. • Strong oral and written communication skills.
