Proofreader Needed for Nonfiction Health Book (~40K words, Final Pass)
Job Description: We’re seeking an experienced proofreader for a completed nonfiction manuscript titled Detox Your Body: The Sugar-Free Plan (approx. 39,913 words). This is Book 2 in an established wellness series authored by Dr. Carolyn Dean, MD, ND, with additional contributors. The manuscript has already undergone developmental editing and copyediting — this is the final polish before publication. You’ll be working with a clean, structured draft in Word format. The goal is to catch any lingering surface errors while preserving the author’s voice and clinical clarity. ✨ Scope of Work: You will be responsible for: ✅ Correcting spelling errors ✅ Ensuring proper grammar and punctuation usage ✅ Identifying and fixing typographical mistakes (extra spaces, dropped words, etc.) ✅ Checking for consistency in style (e.g., capitalization, terminology, usage of hyphens, etc.) ✅ Flagging any formatting oddities (double spaces before titles, inconsistent spacing, etc.) ✅ Verifying internal references (e.g., “see Chapter 4”) are accurate and match the manuscript layout This is not a developmental or stylistic edit — the content is set. We’re looking for a meticulous, detail-oriented proofreader who can confidently handle health-related language and nutrition terminology. Timeline: We would like this project completed within 7–10 days of hire. Ideal Candidate Has: 3+ years experience proofreading nonfiction or health-related books Strong command of American English Comfort with nutrition/wellness terminology (no rewriting needed — just familiar enough to spot obvious inconsistencies) A calm, clean style — you respect the author's voice and only intervene when needed Deliverables: Clean, corrected Word document with Track Changes enabled Final proofed version with changes accepted (optional but appreciated) Not Needed: No structural editing No rewriting No citation formatting If this sounds like a fit, please apply with relevant experience and one example of a completed proofreading project (ideally in health, wellness, or nonfiction). We're ready to begin as soon as we find the right match. Apply tot his job
