About the Role The Microsoft Groups Information Science group is dedicated to cultivating an information-driven culture, enabling the organization to make informed decisions and drive business growth. As a Principal Data Scientist, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of Microsoft Teams Meetings and Calling experiences. You'll work closely with engineering, marketing, finance, and business leaders to identify opportunities for improving customer experiences and accelerating business growth. Key Responsibilities Translate Business Problems into Data-Driven Solutions: Work closely with stakeholders to identify business challenges and develop data-driven approaches to address them. Uncover Key Insights: Apply analytical skills to dive deep into data, uncovering critical insights that inform business decisions and drive growth. Develop Predictive Models: Create models of usage, customer behavior, and business behavior to inform product roadmaps and drive business outcomes. Collaborate Across Teams: Work with various teams across Microsoft to develop key metrics that drive business results and inform strategic decisions. Champion A/B Testing: Design, implement, and analyze experiments to demonstrate product improvement attribution, driving data-driven decision-making. Leverage Technical Tools: Utilize tools like SQL, R, and Python to execute complex analyses and drive business insights. Essential Qualifications To succeed in this role, you'll need: A Bachelor's degree in Information Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related field, combined with 4+ years of experience in data science. Alternatively, a Master's or Ph.D. in a related field, with 4+ years of experience in data science. 4+ years of experience applying statistical methods (e.g., experimentation, statistical modeling) to drive business insights. 4+ years of experience using tools like SQL, R, Python, or related technologies for large-scale analysis. Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following skills and experience can help you stand out: Experience working in a hybrid environment, with flexibility to work from home and on-location at Microsoft's Redmond campus. A strong track record of driving business growth through data-driven insights and decision-making. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and stakeholders.
