The Policy Analyst (SO) is responsible for developing, reviewing and maintaining agency policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal mandates, accreditation standards, and best practices in law enforcement. This position plays a critical role in supporting the agency’s efforts to achieve and maintain accreditation by conducting in-depth research and analysis of laws, regulations and professional standards to inform policy development and revision. Description: Starting pay: $69,405.42 Pay after time in position: $111,048.67 DRUG FREE WORKPLACE: Jefferson County Sheriff's Office may require sworn and non-sworn sheriff's office employees to submit to periodic, random, and unannounced drug testing. Conducts comprehensive research on best practices, legal statutes, industry standards, and evolving trends in law enforcement operations. Drafts, revises, and organizes department policies and procedures in collaboration with command staff, legal advisors and operational units to ensure policies are clearly written, internally consistent, and operationally effective, while ensuring policies comply with federal, state and local laws, and accreditation standards. Assists in the review, modification, drafting and formatting of agency forms and other written directives such as the inmate handbook, detention post orders, emergency operations plans, and applicable policy attachments. Tracks and monitors the JCSO’s progress toward accreditation goals. Assists with mock assessments and on-site evaluations. Assists in preparing and maintaining documentation for achieving and retaining law enforcement accreditation. Maintains a centralized and accessible repository of all active and archived policies and related documents. Generates reports and presentations on policy updates, compliance status, and accreditation progress for leadership review. Represents the JCSO at policy and accreditation-related conferences and workshops. Stay informed on accreditation standards and upcoming trends through participation in the appropriate accrediting agencies and professional associations. Stays informed of changes in laws, regulations, and public expectations related to law enforcement practices. Assists in coordinating training or informational sessions to educate staff on new or updated policies. Work closely with sworn and civilian staff to gather feedback on policy effectiveness and feasibility. Other duties as assigned. Required: Three (3) years of experience in a law enforcement or public safety agency. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in policy analysis, public administration, accreditation, legal compliance, or a similar field. May require extended hours to meet project deadlines or accreditation timelines.
