About the positionResponsibilities• Collaborate with licensed nurses and Patient Care Technicians under direct supervision.• Maintain patient safety and deliver basic patient care.• Provide constant observation of patients and notify nursing personnel of changes in behavior or status.• Intervene as needed to maintain patient safety and prevent elopement.• Communicate effectively with co-workers, patients, families, and visitors.• Perform non-clinical duties as assigned when no patient safety attendant assignment is available.• Maintain a clean and safe environment in the patient care area.• Assist with the plan of care as delegated by the staff nurse/department lead.• Provide care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the ages of patients served.• Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, respecting privacy and communication styles.• Remain knowledgeable about current laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory agency requirements.Requirements• High School diploma or equivalent required.• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required.• Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) training to be obtained prior to independent patient care.• Current certification as a Nursing Assistant required for those employed in Skilled Nursing Facilities/Units or areas where they provide Patient Care Tech duties.• Good communication skills with the ability to communicate therapeutically with psychiatric and mentally ill patients.• Considerable degree of independent judgment to monitor and respond to patient-related changes in condition.• Strong interpersonal skills.• Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.Nice-to-haves• Prior experience in a psychiatric environment.
