About the position Clean Water Action is a national, grassroots environmental organization that seeks to protect the environment and safeguard public health, promote passage of strong environmental laws, and help communities address local environmental problems affecting them. Clean Water Action has close to 1 million members nationally. Clean Water Fund provides research, education, organizing, and technical assistance to strengthen grassroots environmental efforts around the country, promoting the public interest on issues related to water, natural resources, health, and a healthy economy. Clean Water Action and Clean Water Fund work together on selected campaigns and programs. Clean Water's Board of Directors has made a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) and anti-racism a key element of our work. The Organizational Culture Director is a new role at Clean Water responsible for the strategic integration of Clean Water's DEIJ efforts with our leadership and management training initiatives. This role involves designing, implementing, and evaluating training programs that empower managers and leaders at all levels while fostering an inclusive culture, grounded by a strong foundation in adult learning theory. The individual in this position serves as a vital link between effective management practices and the realization of a diverse, equitable, and inclusive organizational culture. Responsibilities • Develop and implement a comprehensive long-term diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy that aligns with Clean Water's strategic goals and objectives. • Provide strategic counsel to the President/CEO; serve as a thought partner by helping to set and achieve strategic priorities. • Ensure that the DEIJ section of our strategic plan has clear, measurable goals and objectives. • Review annual racial justice plans and assist states and national departments in developing meaningful goals and achievable objectives. • Evaluate and update the roles and responsibilities of Clean Water's Diversity Council and lead the council's bi-weekly meetings. • Serve as a coach and counselor to senior leaders and managers on matters of equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice. • Directly facilitate initiatives that promote inclusive leadership practices. • Serve as a strong advocate for our staff, listening to and engaging with staff throughout the organization as well as our external community, to promote a culture of feedback and continuous learning. • Develop and manage relationships with external consultants as needed. • Act as a champion for diversity and inclusion, encouraging a workplace where different perspectives are valued and where all employees feel they can contribute to their fullest potential. • Conduct comprehensive analyses to identify gaps in both management and DEIJ training, based on our organizational objectives and individual learner needs. • Partner with organizational leaders to shape and drive an organizational training strategy that prioritizes both managerial competency and cultural diversity. • Conceptualize, design, and implement professional development opportunities through diverse educational methods such as experiential learning, case studies, reflection, collaborative learning, and problem-solving. • Develop and manage relationships with external training consultants and related resources as needed. • Advise the President/CEO on establishing accountability mechanisms for leadership. • Work with our HR department to ensure that all these initiatives support broader HR and organizational development goals, including talent retention, engagement, succession planning, and performance management. • Develop and implement an evaluation system to measure the effectiveness of all these initiatives on leadership performance, employee engagement, and culture. • Curate a repository of learning resources, case studies on effective management techniques, DEIJ issues, and anti-racism. • Assist our development team in identifying potential funding sources for our DEIJ work. Requirements • A bachelor's or master's degree in human resources, Organizational Development, Education, or a related field is preferred. • Proven experience in developing and facilitating management and diversity training programs. • Understanding of adult learning principles and training methodologies. • Excellent facilitation, communication, conflict management, and leadership skills. • Demonstrated ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels of an organization. • Experience in using metrics and evaluation tools to assess training effectiveness is strongly desired. • Experience in designing and/or managing a mentorship program, while not required, is a plus. • Able to travel to Clean Water offices and events on occasion.
