The State of South Carolina is looking for a Software Architect - Consultant Why is this position open: The Citadel is hiring a Software Architect Consultant to assist in a project upgrading a proprietary software, the Cadet Accountability System. Work Location: Role is 100% remote Candidate location: No SC residency required. Open to nationwide candidates comfortable working EST time zone hours. Daily Responsibilities: • Assess technical feasibility: architecture, scalability, and security of the current CAS system. • Examine operational alignment: support for cadet workflows and Commandant, Academic, and Athletic departments. • Review interoperability: integration with Banner, Canvas, My Citadel Portal, and health systems. • Analyze user experience, adoption, and training needs. • Evaluate economic feasibility: total cost of ownership (TCO) and ROI compared with alternative systems. • Analyze exiting codebase and provide recommendations, timeline, and roadmap for modernization or replacement. • Work with cross-functional teams on complex projects • Present and prepare reports • Assign appropriate priorities to work activities based on organizational goals and situational pressures • Effectively plan and communicate work activities and deadlines Required Skills: • 3+ years of experience with C# • 3+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL • 3+ years of experience gathering and documenting project requirement Preferred Skills: • Familiarity with front end web technologies such as React, JavaScript, and Material UI • 3+ years of experience analyzing existing code and creating modernization plans. • Familiarity with 3rd party data integrations using REST API's and SQL extracts.
