About the position We are seeking a dynamic and strategic NCDIT Chief Information Officer (CIO) for DPS to provide strategic leadership and direction for all information technology services within the Department of Public Safety (DPS) and assigned areas of the Department of Information Technology (NCDIT). Also, the position serves as an advisor to the Secretary and Chief Deputy Secretary regarding information technology issues and as a liaison between DPS and the State CIO, the Department of Information Technology, Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, NC Emergency Management and other agency information technology organizations. The Division of Public Safety within the North Carolina Department of Information Technology (NCDIT) provides comprehensive IT services that support the mission-critical operations of the Department of Public Safety. This includes infrastructure management, application development, cybersecurity, and project oversight. The division ensures secure, reliable, and innovative technology solutions for public safety agencies across the state. It plays a key role in enabling efficient emergency response, law enforcement, and correctional services through technology. Responsibilities • Directing cross-functional IT teams across development, support, and infrastructure to deliver reliable services in dynamic environments, while overseeing operations, personnel, and vendor relationships. • Aligning technology initiatives with business goals through strategic planning, budget management, and the development of policies, procedures, and governance frameworks. • Fostering strong relationships with senior leadership, staff, vendors, and cross-agency stakeholders to coordinate and implement critical Public Safety initiatives across NCDPS. • Championing the effective use of resources and adoption of emerging technologies to continuously improve the impact and efficiency of business systems. • Leading cross-functional teams to assess complex challenges, synthesize diverse perspectives, and implement practical, results-driven solutions. Requirements • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related IT field, business administration, project management, or closely related degree from an appropriately accredited institution and seven years of progressive information technology experience including three years managerial experience • Associate degree in computer science or a related IT field, business administration, project management, or closely related degree from an appropriately accredited institution and eight years of progressive information technology experience with three years of managerial experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience • This position requires a fingerprint-based background search. Hires must agree to a fingerprint-based background search prior to being hired. Nice-to-haves • Prior government with public safety/law enforcement domain experience • Prior consulting practice management experience, demonstrating ability to manage diverse, matrixed teams and client engagements • Experience collaborating across governmental boundaries and agencies to address shared technology challenges and opportunities Apply tot his job
