Natural Resources Intern

Natural Resources Intern supporting biological studies, habitat restoration, and permitting in a hybrid role at Michael Baker International. Your Role Key responsibilities include: • Assist with biological studies, stream/wetland delineation, permitting, and ecosystem restoration under the Natural Resources Task/Project Manager. • Provide field and office assistance, data analysis, and technical review for multi-disciplinary planning services. • Collect and compile quantitative and qualitative data for reports and maps, including technical writing and analysis. • Conduct jurisdictional delineations and prepare regulatory permit applications. • Perform habitat restoration site monitoring and photo-documentation. • Conduct local biological surveys and fieldwork data collection within a two-hour drive. • Oversee construction mitigation monitoring (seeding, planting, weed abatement) and prepare summary memos. • Prepare technical research and report writing such as mitigation plans, memos, wetland, and biological reports. • Support facilitation of in-person and virtual community/stakeholder outreach and engagement. • Coordinate closely with the manager and Natural Resources team members for in-office and in-field work. • Flexible availability targeted at approximately 20 hours per week, varying with workload. About You What you'll need: • Currently enrolled part-time or full-time student in good academic standing at an accredited University, College, or Technical School. • Working towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in an environmental-related discipline. • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. • Valid Driver’s License and ability to travel within southern California. • Ability to hike in various weather conditions and difficult terrain. • Ability to work both remotely and in-person at the Santa Ana, CA office. Compensation & Benefits • Hourly wage range: $20 - $25, dependent on education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and work location. Training & Development • Training provided on biological studies, delineations, permitting, restoration monitoring, technical writing, and community engagement.
