Municipal Sustainability Manager

About the position The Municipal Sustainability Manager is responsible for leading complex projects and policy development to advance sustainability and climate action within the municipal organization. This role involves coordinating sustainability initiatives, conducting research, providing data-driven recommendations, and implementing solutions to meet municipal climate goals. The position may also include direct supervision of staff and requires collaboration with various departments and external stakeholders. Responsibilities • Manage and coordinate municipal sustainability projects and activities among executive and management leadership, various departments, public agencies, and private sector representatives. • Assist with prioritizing initiatives that advance the implementation of the City Council-approved SA Climate Ready Plan. • Oversee coordination between divisions/departments throughout the duration of projects. • Prepare City Council agenda material such as ordinance memorandums and presentations. • Coordinate and prepare reports, presentations, and correspondence. • Assist in developing and tracking specific municipal climate and sustainability benchmarks. • Suggest and implement management solutions to address new or ongoing sustainability challenges faced by the organization. • Assist in planning and delivering on the departmental work plan with Office of Sustainability staff and leadership. • Serve as departmental/divisional representative at conferences and meetings. • Supervise, train, and evaluate staff, maintaining continuous communication. Requirements • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in planning, business, finance, or a related field. • Two (2) years of supervisory experience. Nice-to-haves • Master's Degree in Environmental Studies, Public Policy and Administration, Planning, or Business Administration. • Two years of experience with Climate Mitigation, Adaptation, and Equity. • Experience with data and metrics development, tracking, and reporting. • Experience with Sustainability Reporting.
