Multimodal Transportation Planner Location: Remote Schedule: Monday - Thursday Employment Type: Temporary GLCAP has been awarded funding to partner with the Smyth County, Virginia community to complete an approved workplan to complete a multimodal transportation plan for the region. This project is funded through early 2027. The Multimodal Transportation Planner will support the project by researching, analyzing, and planning transportation systems that enhance mobility, safety, and access for all users. This position will work closely with local agencies, partners, and the public to develop multimodal and non-motorized transportation plans and provide technical recommendations to advance coordinated, sustainable transportation solutions. This position is 100% remote and will require up 3-5 visits to Smyth County, Virginia, for site visits and follow-up. GLCAP has regional offices located in Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, and Wisconsin, ideally the candidate will reside within those states. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Analyze transportation needs, travel patterns, and mobility gaps within assigned communities or geographic areas. • Conduct research, collect and analyze data, and prepare planning studies to support multimodal transportation planning efforts. • Develop and support multimodal and non-motorized transportation plans, including improvements for walking, biking, trails, and active transportation networks. • Review reports, studies, and related technical information and provide recommendations to improve mobility, accessibility, safety, and user comfort. • Coordinate and collaborate with local governments, transportation providers, consultants, and community stakeholders to identify transportation challenges and support project delivery. • Provide technical expertise and recommendations to internal teams, decision-makers, and the public on transportation-related matters. • Support public outreach efforts by gathering input, presenting information, and incorporating community feedback into planning activities. • Assist with integrating emerging mobility solutions and innovative transportation technologies into planning efforts, as appropriate. Additional Responsibilities: • Participate in the team process within the department and the corporation. • Attend internal and external meetings as required. • Pursue training and professional development opportunities related to program compliance, data systems, and administrative best practices. • Occasional travel as required. • Availability to work in excess of scheduled work hours when necessary to meet program deadlines, with prior supervisor approval. Education: Bachelor's degree in urban planning, transportation engineering, or a related field. Experience: Experience in transportation planning, multimodal planning, data analysis, or related coursework, internships, assistantships, or project-based work. Additional Requirements: • Initial and periodic Motor Vehicle Records checks, maintain a valid driver’s license, and maintain a safe driving record. • Must submit to initial and/or periodic state and/or federal criminal checks. • Must submit to initial and periodic drug and alcohol testing.
