The Payroll Manager is a key leader responsible for overseeing and executing all aspects of payroll operations across multiple business units within Industrial Products Group in North America. This role plays a critical part ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in payroll processing. This position will lead payroll strategy, manage vendor relationships, and serve as a trusted advisor to HR, Finance, and executive leadership on payroll-related matters. This highly visible role requires deep expertise in multi-state payroll operations, strong leadership capabilities, and a passion for continuous improvement and technology-driven solutions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Lead payroll operations across the Industrial Products Group, overseeing North America payroll as the company’s primary payroll authority. • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for multiple companies and pay frequencies (weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly) with accuracy and timeliness. • Supervise and mentor direct reports, ensuring effective workload management, performance development, and team collaboration. • Oversee time and attendance systems and maintain confidential payroll records in the company’s payroll system. • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and relevant international payroll regulations, union agreements, and company policies. • Process payroll changes including hires, terminations, compensation updates, garnishments, and benefit deductions. • Collaborate with HR to ensure accurate payroll deductions and third-party remittances. • Respond to payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies in partnership with HR. • Serve as liaison with payroll processing partners, tax agencies, and external partners on payroll matters. • Administer 401(k), deferred compensation, and required statutory benefits. • Ensure timely and accurate payroll tax filings and jurisdiction setup/closure in North America. • Maintain compliance with internal policies and external regulations, support audits and reporting. • Review payroll transactions for accuracy and resolve discrepancies with payroll processing provider. • Manage expat tax equalization payments with external accounting firms. • Schedule and process special or off-cycle payrolls. • Participate in payroll-related projects, committees, and cross-functional teams. • Research and resolve stale payroll checks in accordance with state regulations. • Prepare payroll journal entries, W-2s, and follow up on tax return issues. • Recommend improvements to payroll policies and procedures. • Provide ad hoc reporting and perform other duties as assigned. • Exercise and model confidentiality with personal, private information POSITION QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND KEY EXPERIENCES: • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field; or equivalent experience. • 7+ years of payroll experience, including experience in multi-state/multi-location environments. • Certification in Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) preferred • Proven experience leading and managing payroll teams, including mentoring, performance management, and workload prioritization. • Strong knowledge of payroll laws, tax regulations, and GAAP principles. • Proficient in Workday, ADP Workforce Now, ADP Enhanced E-Time, ADP Smart Compliance and Microsoft Office Suite. • Detail-oriented, organized, and deadline-driven. • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills. • Excellent communication and presentation abilities. • Customer-focused with a collaborative and professional demeanor. • Passionate about payroll, technology, and mentoring others.
