Litigation and Compliance Counsel - Remote
About the position The Litigation and Compliance Counsel at Harbor Freight Tools is responsible for managing non-employment litigation matters and providing strategic legal advice to various business units. This role involves ensuring compliance with product safety regulations, marketing practices, and other legal standards relevant to retail operations. The Counsel will also handle customer complaints, manage outside counsel for litigation, and represent the company in legal proceedings as necessary. Responsibilities • Provide practical and proactive legal advice and support for cross-functional business partners on product safety and compliance issues. • Manage informal complaints from customers or competitors regarding sales and marketing practices. • Oversee non-employment litigation matters, including class actions and IP litigation, and manage outside counsel. • Collaborate with litigation paralegals to manage discovery obligations and provide relevant documents for litigation. • Track pending litigation matters, assigned outside counsel, case status, and potential exposure. • Represent the company in mediations, depositions, and court as needed. • Stay informed of relevant regulations and case law to provide strategic compliance guidance. Requirements • J.D. from a nationally recognized law school and license to practice in one of the 48 contiguous states. • 5-8 years' litigation or compliance experience with a top law firm or in-house with an established company. • Knowledge of litigation, product, and marketing compliance issues in a business setting. • Excellent written and oral communication skills. • Strong negotiation skills and ability to resolve issues independently. • High level of computer skills and ability to work in a high-volume environment.
