Industrial Designer: Minimalist Wearable Enclosure Redesign for Manufacturing

Remote Full-time
We are a hardware company preparing for a production run of a simple, electromechanical product (only three case components). We have existing CAD files but require an experienced Industrial Designer to handle two key areas: mechanical fitting and elegant aesthetic refinement. We require a simple, premium outcome. I. Required Mechanical Scope (Non-Negotiable) Mechanical Adjustment: Redesign the internal volume, mounting points, and structural ribs of the existing three-piece plastic enclosure to perfectly accommodate a new, slightly larger battery model (specs will be provided). Design for Manufacturing (DFM) Review: Review existing and new CAD features to ensure optimal wall thickness, draft angles, and parting lines for reliable, low-cost plastic injection molding. II. Aesthetic & Functional Refinement The core concept is an elegant, simple, light-diffusing "orb". We are looking for refinement, not reinvention. The designer must maintain the product's overall simplicity while elevating its premium feel. Aesthetic Goal: Minimalist and Premium. Focus on making the orb look like a single, seamless object. This includes optimizing the appearance of the seams/parting lines, refining the surface curvature, and ensuring the base connection is visually and structurally sound. III. Deliverables 3-5 High-Quality Renderings showcasing the refined, minimalist aesthetic. Production-Ready CAD Files (STEP/Parasolid) of the final 3-piece enclosure, fully robust and checked for manufacturability (DFM). Technical Drawings suitable for providing to a US-based plastic injection molding toolmaker. IV. Requirements & Experience Proven experience designing minimalist consumer electronics enclosures (portfolio samples preferred). Expertise in SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent CAD software for complex surfacing and mechanical features. Deep understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) for plastic injection molding. Ability to work efficiently on a defined scope and iterate quickly based on feedback. Apply tot his job
