Role Description The role of the scribe is to assist the physician with documentation of the patient's medical record. • Explain to the patient what to expect from technician’s work up and from the physician • Complete a detailed patient history including: • Past medical history (systemic and ocular) • Family medical history (systemic and ocular) • Medication history (systemic and ocular) • Chief complaint (the reason for the visit) • Under the direction of the physician, transcribe: • Impression and plan • Results of tests • Prescriptions and orders • Document any procedures performed by the physician or ophthalmic medical personnel • Transcribe any consultations or discussions with family members • Does not directly assist with patient care • Attend required staff and educational meetings as requested • Maintain strictest confidentiality Qualifications • Associates Degree minimum / Bachelor’s Degree preferred • 2-3 years of Retina Scribe experience required • 1 year of Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician experience preferred Requirements • Prior experience in ophthalmic assistant/technician roles • Screening and technical workups to support provider visit requirements including: • Patient histories • Preliminary examinations • Testing to facilitate patient flow of 4-6 patients per hour • Specialized and advanced testing support for provider visit requirements • EMR entry, notes, charting, and assist as scribe for physician as required • Communication with patients regarding: • Appointment scheduling • Follow-up care • Surgeries and procedures • Changes in schedule • Symptoms and additional testing • Presentation of informed consent documentation and pre- and post-operative instructions • Instrumentation set up and/or equipment for in-office minor surgery and laser procedures • Clean exam/treatment rooms and sterilize instruments after use Knowledge • Ophthalmic pre-exam workup and basic and advanced ophthalmic testing • Thorough knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms, surgical procedures, and ocular medications • Understanding and utilization of sterile technique and procedures • Understanding and following procedures for surgical and procedural consents, pre- and post-operative instructions • Knowledge of electronic medical record (EMR) and practice management (EPM) systems • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills • Ability to assist providers with 4-6 patient encounters per hour Benefits • Competitive Compensation: • Base salary, performance bonuses, and regular reviews • Health & Wellness: • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance; and wellness program • Retirement Planning: • 401(k) with company match • Generous Time Off: • Paid vacation, sick leave, and company holidays • Learning & Development: • Career growth programs • Other Perks: • Commuter benefits • Voluntary Accident and Critical Illness plans • FSA/HSA and Dependent Care FSA • Employee discounts and more Apply tot his job
