Key Responsibilities Implement instructional plans as determined by licensed teachers and therapists, ensuring that students receive the support they need to succeed. Modify lessons as directed and supplement or change lesson modifications as needed to ensure that learning objectives are met. Administer curriculum-based tests/quizzes, providing critical feedback and assessment data to inform instruction. Assist students with recording assignments, gathering materials, and completing homework, helping them develop essential organizational skills. Take notes on curriculum presented during class, providing additional support and accommodations as needed. Provide physical care and support, including diapering, toileting, feeding, and reinforcing adaptive PE/motor activities, as instructed by teachers and therapists. Observe, document, and reinforce positive student behaviors, communicating with teachers and facilitators to ensure seamless support. Participate in weekly team meetings to review student progress, plan upcoming lessons, and engage in ongoing professional development. Assist with non-instructional activities, maintaining a safe, orderly, and respectful learning environment. Escort students to and from buses or cars, ensuring their safety and well-being. Record and update student progress toward achieving individual educational plan goals, providing critical data to inform instruction. Essential Qualifications To succeed as a High School Special Education Teaching Assistant, you'll need: A valid Educator License with Stipulations (PARA), Substitute License, or Professional Educator License. Experience working with students with special needs, preferably in a high school setting. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and families. Basic arithmetic skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. Proficiency in using personal computers and software applications, including Word and Excel. The ability to maintain confidentiality, establish positive relationships with students, and work independently. Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable: Experience working with students with diverse needs, including those with autism, ADHD, or other special needs. Knowledge of adaptive technologies and strategies for supporting students with special needs. Previous experience in a special education setting, including high school or post-secondary environments. Skills and Competencies To excel in this role, you'll need: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and families. The ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs. Flexibility, patience, and a positive attitude, with the ability to adapt to changing situations and priorities. Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and other software applications. The ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
