Fractional CTO / Technical Growth Lead (Shopify, CRO, Tracking & Testing)

Overview We are a fast-growing DTC e-commerce company operating in a regulated product category (hemp-derived products) and we’re entering a heavy optimization and experimentation phase. We are looking for a Fractional CTO / Technical Growth Lead to partner with us as we roll out multiple site changes without breaking revenue or tracking. This is not a basic development role. This is a strategy + systems + execution oversight role. What’s Currently in Motion We have multiple initiatives happening in parallel, including: New upsell & bundle pages A new popup and on-site offer strategy New landing pages and PDP variations Conversion rate experiments across traffic sources Ongoing Shopify customizations The challenge is not building things — it’s testing, sequencing, tracking, and understanding impact. Your Core Responsibility You will own the technical strategy behind: How changes are rolled out How tests are structured How tracking is validated How we determine what actually works Your job is to make sure we don’t guess — we measure. What You’ll Be Doing Acting as a Fractional CTO / Technical Lead Designing a testing & rollout framework (what to launch, when, and how) Ensuring clean tracking across: Shopify GA4 Meta / paid media Conversion events Auditing and improving attribution reliability Helping prioritize experiments based on impact vs risk Working with developers/designers (or implementing yourself when needed) Preventing conflicts between new features, scripts, popups, and tracking Creating clarity around what’s actually moving revenue What You MUST Be Strong In This role is not for junior developers. You must have deep experience with: Shopify (custom themes, PDPs, bundles, upsells) CRO & experimentation (A/B testing, staged rollouts) Event tracking & analytics (GA4, Meta, pixels, server-side concepts) Understanding how front-end changes affect paid traffic performance Diagnosing attribution issues Scaling changes on live revenue sites without chaos Bonus if you’ve worked with: Regulated or restricted ad categories High-volume DTC stores Subscription or repeat-purchase models Engagement Structure Fractional / Part-time Ongoing relationship (not a one-off project) Mix of: Strategy Oversight Execution You will be treated as a technical decision-maker, not a task-taker Who This Is For This role is perfect for someone who: Has been a CTO, Head of Engineering, or Technical Growth Lead Is tired of agency chaos and wants real ownership Thinks in systems, not tickets Cares deeply about data integrity and clean experimentation Who This Is NOT For Agencies Junior Shopify developers People who only “build what they’re told” Anyone who can’t explain why a test should be run a certain way How to Apply (Important Filter) Please include: A short summary of how you approach testing and rollout on live e-commerce sites Examples of tracking or CRO systems you’ve implemented Your availability and preferred engagement model Apply tot his job
