Forensic Accountant
Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled Forensic Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in financial investigations, regulatory compliance, and accounting principles. This role involves analyzing complex financial data, uncovering discrepancies, and providing expert testimony related to financial crimes, fraud, and litigation support. The Forensic Accountant will play a critical role in assisting legal teams, regulatory agencies, and corporate clients by delivering accurate financial analysis and reports with integrity and professionalism. Responsibilities • Conduct thorough forensic investigations into financial discrepancies, fraud, and misconduct using advanced accounting techniques. • Analyze financial statements, general ledger data, and transaction records to identify irregularities or fraudulent activities. • Prepare detailed reports outlining findings, including financial report writing and interpretation for legal proceedings or corporate review. • Assist in litigation support by providing expert testimony and detailed documentation of financial analyses. • Reconcile accounts such as bank statements, accounts payable/receivable, and perform balance sheet reconciliations. • Review and interpret complex financial concepts including GAAP, SOX compliance, LIHTC regulations, and securities law as they relate to investigations. • Utilize various accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft, and other financial management tools to gather data and perform analysis. • Conduct audits related to governmental accounting standards or non-profit accounting frameworks when necessary. • Support regulatory reporting requirements and ensure adherence to applicable laws and standards. • Mentor junior staff or interns in forensic accounting practices and technical accounting procedures. Requirements • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CFA designation preferred. • Extensive experience with corporate accounting, public accounting, or governmental accounting environments. • Strong knowledge of financial concepts including double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, journal entries, and accrual accounting. • Proficiency with financial software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft, Microsoft Excel (advanced), Quicken, and other relevant tools. • Familiarity with regulatory standards including SOX compliance and securities law. • Experience with forensic investigations involving financial statement analysis, account reconciliation, cash flow analysis, and audit procedures. • Ability to interpret complex financial data accurately and communicate findings clearly through written reports or testimony. • Knowledge of specialized areas such as Wills & Trusts Law or non-profit accounting is a plus. • Strong analytical skills combined with high ethical standards; attention to detail is essential.
