Finance Assistant, Payroll & Operation
The Canadian Cancer Society is dedicated to improving lives through cancer research and support. They are seeking a Finance Assistant to support payroll and financial operations in Western Canada, focusing on payroll processing and assisting with fundraising financial requests. Responsibilities Work along with the Payroll & Accounting Specialist on bi-weekly payroll processing including: Assist with proper setup of the Time & Attendance (T&A) module in ADP Workforce Now (WFN) for new hires (i.e. work schedules) and provide training and support to employees, particularly hourly staff Coordinate with employees and people leaders in correct timecards and resolve exceptions to ensure accurate bi-weekly payroll processing Support banking changes with employees and updating employee banking information in accounting ERP (Oracle NetSuite) Setup of new hires (salaried and hourly paid) for payroll processing, including the setup of tax accounts, provincial worker’s compensation accounts, employer health and other payroll deductions in WFN Maintain and update employee data in WFN that impacts finance or payroll, such as home cost number changes Calculate any payroll adjustments as required to complete the bi-weekly payroll cycle Provide first-level support for timecard and payroll inquiries, with a focus on supporting Lodge employees in British Columbia while assisting other provinces as needed Monitor payroll email inbox and revert in a timely manner to all employee questions involving T&A and payroll across all provinces Assist with preparing remittances for payroll-related payables and billings for approval and payments Assist the Payroll & Accounting Specialist to complete the year-end payroll tasks on a timely basis Assist Senior Manager, Payroll to document any new payroll process including any changes Provide backup coverage to Payroll & Accounting Specialist as needed Perform additional duties as assigned Support fundraising requests in Western Canada, including credit card processing and point of sales devices (initiate request, testing flow of funds, ensure devices are received, tested, ready for use, and returned) Support in-person Vancouver fundraising events such as Vancouver Daffodil Ball as the Finance representative Contribute to process improvement initiatives and new system implementations as assigned Support in other tasks and projects as assigned Contribute to our culture of diversity, inclusion, belonging and equity (DIBE) by ensuring that all staff feel represented, valued, and heard across all aspects of their identity, including gender, age, religion, ethnicity, nationality, race, and sexuality Skills At least 1-3 years of related experience in similar role. Post-secondary education such as acquiring a college diploma, as well as specialized technical/professional training and/or certification, or equivalent Payment processing, cash handling, data entry and accounting experience is required Proficiency in MS Excel Excellent customer service and communication skills (verbal and written) required Passionate, positive, solutions-focused with a ‘can do' attitude, and ability to work both alone and as part of a team Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills, with an ability to prioritize and multitask to meet the deadlines Possess a strong knowledge of accounting principles High awareness of and adherence to cyber security and related protocols Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Comfortable working in both an office and remote environments English is required Payroll knowledge and experience is an asset General accounting and business experience is an asset Experience using accounting and payroll systems (complex systems e.g. NetSuite and/or ADP) French/Bilingualism (French /English) is an asset due to the organization's nationwide operations Benefits Paid parental leave Family sick time Health insurance Company Overview Canadian Cancer Society is a company that specializes in cancer funding services.
