Job Overview We are currently seeking an experienced Upper Level Math Tutor to join our team in Defiance, OH. As a part-time Sylvan Instructor, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students, providing personalized instruction in Math and SAT/ACT prep. Our ideal candidate is a motivated and enthusiastic educator who is passionate about teaching upper-level math concepts, including Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus. Key Responsibilities Teach upper-level math concepts using Sylvan-based programs, adapting to the needs of students in a small group setting (3:1 ratio) Supervise, interact with, and motivate students during instruction hours, ensuring they stay engaged and focused on their learning objectives Reward students for completed assignments, promoting a sense of accomplishment and encouraging them to strive for excellence Evaluate and document student progress, identifying areas of strength and weakness to inform future instruction Communicate student needs to the center director, ensuring a collaborative approach to supporting student success Inspire students to develop a love of learning, fostering a growth mindset and confidence in their math abilities Develop rapport with students, establishing a fun and supportive learning environment that encourages active participation and engagement Maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching and the Sylvan method, serving as a role model for students and colleagues alike Essential Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field Proven experience teaching upper-level math concepts, including Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities Flexibility and adaptability, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adjust to changing circumstances Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field Certification in Mathematics or a related field Experience working with students in a supplemental education setting, such as tutoring or teaching in a private educational institution Familiarity with the Sylvan curriculum and instructional methods Experience with technology-based educational tools and platforms Skills and Competencies Strong knowledge of upper-level math concepts, including Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus Excellent teaching and instructional skills, with the ability to adapt to the needs of students with diverse learning styles Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students, parents, and colleagues Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong sense of initiative and self-motivation Flexibility and adaptability, with the ability to adjust to changing circumstances and priorities Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At Sylvan Learning, we are committed to supporting the ongoing growth and development of our instructors.
