Key Responsibilities As a Sylvan Learning Center tutor, you will play a vital role in creating a positive and engaging learning experience for our students. Your key responsibilities will include: Preparing for instructional sessions : Gather and prepare materials, review student progress, and plan engaging lessons. Teaching and instructing students : Use Sylvan program materials to deliver balanced and robust learning experiences, tailored to the needs and abilities of each student. Managing the classroom : Create a productive and respectful learning environment, managing student tasks and time to maximize learning outcomes. Evaluating student progress : Assess student understanding, record progress, and communicate with Center staff to ensure that each student receives the support they need. Motivating and inspiring students : Use praise, encouragement, and Sylvan tokens to motivate students and promote a love of learning. Maintaining accurate records : Record and track student progress, tokens earned, and lesson plans. Participating in staff meetings and training : Attend periodic staff meetings, complete ongoing training, and participate in certification training for each Sylvan program. Essential Qualifications and Skills To succeed as a Sylvan Learning Center tutor, you will need: Language Arts and Study Skills Program Teachers Four-year degree or equivalent : A degree in education, language arts, or a related field. Teaching experience : A minimum of one or two years of teaching experience, preferably in language arts or a related field. Knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension : A strong understanding of phonics and reading comprehension, with the ability to teach these skills to students. Math Program Teachers Four-year degree or equivalent : A degree in mathematics, education, or a related field. Mathematical skills : The ability to do college-level math and teach mathematical concepts to students. SAT/ACT, Test Prep, and Advanced Reading Skills Teachers Four-year degree or equivalent : A degree in education, a related field, or a strong background in test preparation.
