Job Summary As a Special Education Teacher in a self-contained classroom, you will play a vital role in planning and delivering specialized instruction to students with diverse learning needs, including cognitive, emotional, or physical disabilities. You will work closely with our multidisciplinary team, including general education teachers, therapists, and other support staff, to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) that cater to the unique needs of each student. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans that align with the curriculum and meet the diverse needs of students in a self-contained classroom setting Establish a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes social, emotional, and academic growth Collaborate with general education teachers, therapists, and other support staff to develop and implement IEPs that cater to the unique needs of each student Use a variety of instructional strategies and techniques to engage students and promote learning, including technology integration and adaptive equipment Assess student progress, identify areas of strength and weakness, and adjust instruction accordingly Communicate regularly with parents and guardians through conferences, progress reports, and other means to ensure they are informed and involved in their child's education Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in special education and enhance your teaching skills Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications: A valid Alaska initial, professional, or master teaching certificate with an endorsement in special education Evidence of content knowledge in the area of special education, demonstrated through a posted degree, minor, or passing Praxis Subject Assessments scores Ability to describe your philosophy of education and demonstrate its relationship to your practice Understanding of how students learn and develop, and the ability to apply that knowledge in your practice Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and colleagues Preferred Qualifications While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable: Evidence of experience working with special education students, particularly in a self-contained classroom setting Experience working collaboratively to support the IEP needs of special education students in a public school setting Knowledge of current research and theory in special education, and the ability to apply that knowledge in your practice Ability to use technology to enhance instruction, including adaptive equipment and software Skills and Competencies To succeed in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and competencies: Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and colleagues Ability to think critically and creatively, with a solutions-focused approach to problem-solving Strong emotional intelligence, with the ability to empathize with students and colleagues, and manage your own emotions in a fast-paced environment Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, including unexpected events or challenges Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At Workwarp, we are committed to supporting the ongoing growth and development of our educators.
