As part of our mission, we are seeking an experienced and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team at Crownpoint High School for the 2024 school year. About the Role We are looking for a dedicated Special Education Teacher who can make a meaningful difference in the lives of our secondary students. This role involves designing and implementing individualized educational plans, providing instructional support, and collaborating with other educators and families to ensure student success. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about special education principles, culturally responsive teaching practices, and strategies for supporting students with diverse needs. Key Responsibilities Plan and deliver curriculum tailored to the needs and abilities of students with special needs, ensuring alignment with the Individualized Educational Program (IEP) goals. Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team, working closely with administrators, teachers, students, and families to implement educational plans and provide support. Develop and revise individual teaching plans to address the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development of students. Counsel and support parents in understanding and implementing therapeutic and behavioral techniques at home. Maintain accurate and confidential records of student progress and communicate effectively with relevant stakeholders. Engage in ongoing professional development to stay updated on best practices in special education and contribute to the district's commitment to excellence. Demonstrate respect for and understanding of the cultural diversity and traditional Native American beliefs of students and their families. Essential Qualifications and Skills To be considered for this role, you must have: A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field. A valid New Mexico teaching license or the ability to obtain one through the state's alternative licensure program. Knowledge of special education principles, practices, and laws. Experience working with students with diverse needs and abilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing circumstances. Preferred qualifications include: Previous experience in a special education setting. Familiarity with the Navajo culture and language. Skills in American Sign Language (ASL) or Braille. Experience with IEP development and implementation. What We Offer Gallup McKinley County Schools is committed to attracting and retaining top talent in education. For this position, we offer: A competitive salary ranging from $55,999 to $78,443 per year. Relocation expenses: $2,500 to $4,500, depending on the distance. A signing incentive: $18,000 to $22,000, paid over two school years. Free rent and utilities for housing within a 30-mile radius. Opportunities for professional growth and development.
