Job Overview As a Special Education Program Paraprofessional, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational, physical, safety, and general life skills development of special needs students. You will work closely with instructional staff, specialists, and teachers to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment that promotes academic achievement, social growth, and emotional well-being. Key Responsibilities Assist instructional staff, specialists, and teachers in providing individualized support to students with disabilities Help students with daily living skills, such as feeding, toileting, and personal care Support students with academic tasks, such as reading, writing, and math Assist with behavioral interventions and strategies to promote positive behavior Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and community members Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion Observe and record student progress, behavior, and academic achievement Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge Essential Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Experience as a teacher's assistant in a teaching environment in or outside a school system or related childcare work 60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits of college or a passing score on the ParaPro assessment Ability to work cooperatively with children and adults Effective communication and interpersonal skills Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion Desirable Qualifications Demonstrated ability to work positively with students with disabilities Experience working with students with autism, emotional behavioral disorders, or other special needs Knowledge of behavioral interventions and strategies to promote positive behavior Ability to adapt to changing situations and priorities Strong organizational and time management skills Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At Duluth Public Schools, we are committed to supporting the professional growth and development of our staff.
