About the Role We are seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead our Event Management Tooling team, focusing on empowering event data creators and consumers through tools for event registration, metadata management, and monitoring. As a Software Engineering Manager at Wayfair, you will drive the delivery of Event Management platforms from design and architecture to production, leading a team of skilled engineers. You will partner with product and marketing teams to define the vision for your platform and build the roadmap for your team. Your technical expertise and leadership will be crucial in designing scalable systems using Java, Kubernetes, Kafka, GCP, Windstream, and other technologies. Key Responsibilities Drive and own the delivery of Event Management platforms from design and architecture to production Lead a team of skilled engineers, mentoring and guiding colleagues at various career levels Partner with product and marketing teams to define the vision for your platform and build the roadmap for your team Design scalable systems using Java, Kubernetes, Kafka, GCP, Windstream, and other technologies Implement and own all aspects of software development for your team - design, development, and deployment Use depth and breadth of technical expertise to ensure platforms being built are flexible, efficient, and extensible Demonstrate strong motivation and leadership to improve the effectiveness of your team and platform continuously Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field Experience making building and design-related decisions for large-scale platforms, understanding the tradeoffs between time-to-market versus flexibility Experience hiring and mentoring engineers across various levels Experience initiating and driving complex projects to completion with minimal direction Experience building different applications ranging from low-latency APIs to large-scale batch systems, preferably in a cloud environment, using cloud-native services Experience with containerization, Java, and microservices is preferred Experience with streaming technologies, GCP Pub/Sub, and message structures is a plus Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with engineers, product managers, and business partners Preferred Qualifications In addition to the essential qualifications, we prefer candidates with: Experience with cloud-based technologies and scalable system design Knowledge of machine learning and data analytics Experience with agile development methodologies and version control systems Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities Career Growth and Learning Opportunities At Wayfair, we are committed to the growth and development of our employees.
