As a Medical Data Entry Associate at arenaflex, you will play a critical role in reviewing and verifying assigned codes, sequencing diagnosis and procedures, and abstracting accurate clinical information to obtain the most specific code possible. Job Summary The Medical Data Entry Associate will be responsible for maintaining up-to-date knowledge of coding and regulatory requirements, utilizing web-based tools and coding books to facilitate providing insurance companies with required information, and participating in audits to capture lost charges and determine the accuracy of billing. Key Responsibilities Reviews and verifies assigned codes and sequences diagnosis and procedures according to regulations (e.g., ICD9CM, CPT, HCPCS, UHDDS, and HIPPA coding guidelines) and abstracts accurate clinical information to obtain the most specific code possible to ensure an accurate health information database. Contacts physicians for clarification of clinical information as necessary for account type and ensures that all interactions are professional and timely. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of coding and regulatory requirements to accurately assign codes for appropriate reimbursement of healthcare services and continues to strive to meet continuing education requirements for certification or to maintain working knowledge of on-going changes to CPT, HCPS, and ICD codes. Utilizes web-based tools, coding books, and other available resources to facilitate providing insurance companies with required information and ensures that all data entry is accurate and timely. Utilizes multiple information systems to accurately select the correct patient account in order to appropriately review and verify patient billable charges and participates in audits to capture lost charges and determine the accuracy of billing as necessary. Gathers demographic, insurance, and health care encounter information from a variety of sources for the purpose of billing medical provider professional fees and enters and verifies the appropriate demographic information, charges, and comments into the computerized billing system. Performs manual charge entry by gathering demographic, insurance, and healthcare encounter information from a variety of sources in order to accurately bill medical provider professional fees and ensures that all information entered in the system is done in an accurate and timely manner. Creates a registration in the appropriate system (EPIC) from documentation provided to accurately record encounter and accurately bill the appropriate stakeholders and responds to inquiries from provider offices and various internal departments in a timely and accurate professional manner. Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need to have a high school diploma or its equivalent. No experience is necessary, as we provide comprehensive training and support to ensure your success. However, if you have experience in health information management, coding, or a related field, it will be considered an asset. Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are preferred: Certification in coding or health information management (e.g., CPC, CCA, or RHIT) Experience with web-based tools and coding books Knowledge of ICD9CM, CPT, HCPCS, UHDDS, and HIPPA coding guidelines Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Strong attention to detail and analytical skills Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines Skills and Competencies To excel in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and competencies: Attention to detail : You will need to be able to review and verify assigned codes and sequences diagnosis and procedures with a high degree of accuracy.
