As a Machine Learning Engineer on our Apple Store Online team, you'll be at the forefront of developing the next generation of algorithms that power the Apple Online experience, shaping the future of retail for millions of customers worldwide. About the Role We're seeking a passionate, highly motivated, and hands-on Machine Learning Engineer to lead our Online Retail Decision Automation team. This role will be responsible for researching and developing cutting-edge algorithms that drive the Apple Online Store experience, including product search, recommendation systems, personalization, Generative AI, and optimizing Apple-wide systems & infrastructure. As a member of our fast-paced team, you'll have the opportunity to be part of new projects and craft upcoming products that will delight and encourage millions of Apple's customers every day. Key Responsibilities Collaborate with other Machine Learning Engineers to build scalable, production-ready ML solutions, taking algorithms from initial concept through to deployment. Contribute to the ongoing improvement of our ML infrastructure and tooling, ensuring the highest level of efficiency and effectiveness. Engage in continuous learning and development, staying up-to-date with the latest advances in machine learning and software engineering to drive innovation and excellence. Mentor other Machine Learning Engineers and lead efforts to build scalable end-to-end machine learning solutions for our retail customers. Minimum Qualifications To be successful in this role, you'll need: 5+ years of related experience, including 2+ years of experience in machine learning, with a strong background in developing and deploying ML models. Proficiency in one or more object-oriented programming languages, such as Python, Java, or C++, and experience building highly scalable distributed systems. End-to-end hands-on experience with building data processing pipelines, large-scale machine learning systems, and big data technologies (e.g., Spark, SQL, Snowflake/Hadoop). A deep understanding of the machine learning model lifecycle, from prototyping and feature engineering to training, inference, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement via deep analysis. Preferred Qualifications To stand out in this role, you'll ideally have: A Ph.D. or Master's degree in a quantitative field, such as Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or Statistics, or equivalent professional experience. Experience in Recommender Systems, Personalization, Search, Computational Advertising, or Natural Language Processing, including RAG-based Generative AI and transformer architecture. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Experience using Deep Learning, Bandits, Probabilistic Graphical Models, or Reinforcement Learning in real-world applications. Familiarity with Spark, TensorFlow, Keras, and PyTorch, with a strong understanding of their applications and limitations.
