Experienced Litigation Lawyer Needed
Lawyer, Paralegal, Commercial Litigation Lawyer or Paralegal (Remote, Long-Term, High-Intensity) Experienced lawyer or paralegal to work in the background on a complex, long-running Australian commercial litigation matter currently before the Supreme Court of Queensland, with related regulatory, corporate, and disclosure issues. Other cases and legal drafting and structuring a strong possibility for the right applicant. This is not a superficial research or document-formatting role. You will be required to deeply understand the case, master the facts and history, complete detailed paralegal work going through materials to determine relevant facts, construct timelines, complete draft affidavits, review all filings and correspondence from the other side and local lawyers, and act as in-house legal support, overseeing strategy, preparing evidence and briefs, and closely with my local Australian solicitors, or, on occasion preparing self-represented filings. Multiple further tasks and roles for expansion within the company to long term for the right applicant. You will be the primary in-house case lead for the matter. Scope of Work You will be required to: Read, understand, and synthesise large volumes of material, including: emails (multi-year correspondence), pleadings, affidavits, and court orders, ASIC-related documents and prospectuses, shareholder and project agreements, investor communications and financial records. lead the case internally and take responsibility for meeting deadlines, reviewing and informing strategy, identifying weaknesses and opportunities etc; review transcripts and emails from local lawyers to ensure synergy; keep all materials under strict legal confidentiality requirements; must think, be self motivated and directed, not just execute or requiring frequent oversight; work through a very large volume material to find relevant evidence. Build and maintain: a clean factual chronology, issue-based summaries aligned to pleaded claims, document maps identifying relevance and risk, briefing packages for Australian counsel. Assist with: identifying inconsistencies or overreach in the opposing party’s requests, relevance analysis for disclosure disputes, drafting background notes, instructions, and summaries for solicitors, preparing material that is court-ready, not academic. Work collaboratively but independently, with minimal hand-holding once up to speed. Required Background You must have: Legal training Legal experience Commercial litigation experience strongly preferred. Excellent written English (common-law background strongly preferred, most desirable Australian, but also UK or USA). The ability to hold large factual structures in your head without losing coherence. Advantages, if experienced with: shareholder disputes, corporate governance disputes, injunctions / interlocutory applications, disclosure and relevance disputes, financial or project-based litigation. Time Commitment Initial phase: preferred. 38 hours per week or more while you get fully across the case. All work must be time logged Ongoing: workload will reduce once you are substantively embedded and the core materials are built.
