Job Summary We are seeking an experienced and motivated Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor of Criminal Justice to join our team at Penn State DuBois. This full-time, term appointment is for one year (36 weeks) with the possibility of renewal, starting in January 2024. As a teaching-line faculty member, you will play a crucial role in shaping the minds of our students, teaching a range of courses from introductory to upper-level classes in the Criminal Justice Program. Key Responsibilities Teach four courses (12 credits) each semester, with a total of eight different courses per year, including Research Methods, Criminal Justice Ethics, Introduction to Courts, Introduction to Criminal Justice, Race, Crime, and Justice, and Capstone classes Participate in campus, university, and community service activities, demonstrating a commitment to diversity, equity, and social justice Engage in scholarly activities, including research and publication, to maintain academic and pedagogical excellence Advise a caseload of undergraduate students, providing guidance and support to ensure their academic success Contribute to curriculum development, ensuring that courses are relevant, innovative, and aligned with industry needs Collaborate with colleagues to achieve departmental goals, foster a positive work environment, and promote a culture of inclusion Essential Qualifications Minimum of a master's degree in Criminal Justice or Criminology or a related field for a Lecturer rank appointment Ph.D. required for an Assistant Teaching Professor appointment Experience with online courses and contemporary distance education technologies Commitment to high-quality teaching, evidenced by a variety of modalities, including face-to-face, online, and hybrid instruction Dedication to teaching and mentoring first-generation, underrepresented minority, and non-traditional college students Preferred Qualifications Experience in curriculum development, assessment, and program evaluation Background in research methods, statistics, and data analysis Familiarity with community-based research, service-learning, and experiential education Knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles, with a focus on social justice and community engagement Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds Skills and Competencies Strong teaching and mentoring skills, with the ability to create an inclusive and engaging learning environment Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds Ability to design and deliver courses that are relevant, innovative, and aligned with industry needs Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a focus on social justice and community engagement Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At Penn State DuBois, we are committed to supporting the professional development and growth of our faculty and staff.
