Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Financial Counselor to join our Patient Financial Services team at blithequark. As a Financial Counselor, you will play a vital role in ensuring that coverage is financially cleared for all emergency inpatient and observation services. Your expertise in reviewing insurance eligibility and benefits, creating estimates, and collecting upfront cash will be essential in maximizing collection of balances due or account resolution from all sources. You will interact with various hospital departments, patients, families, and medical staff to identify the appropriate payment source and provide timely referrals for government programs, including Medicaid and Charity Care. Key Responsibilities Taking actions to support the maximization of collection of balances due or account resolution from all sources, meeting Quality and Productivity expectations Facilitating account resolution by accurately identifying, following up on, or correcting billing errors, lower than expected reimbursement, or denials for correction and resubmission to patients and/or insurance carriers Timely identifying, researching, and resolving any issues that may cause delays in payment or account resolution, and recommending opportunities to improve collections and follow-up activities Working collaboratively across teams, with peers, and revenue cycle departments to achieve common goals Creating estimates and collecting point of service cash when appropriate, and providing timely and appropriate referrals for various state medical assistance programs Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need: A High School Diploma or GED equivalent, with the opportunity to enroll in a GED/HSEA program at the time of hire if not already possessed 4 years of similar hospital billing or accounting experience, with knowledge of Charity Care, Uncompensated Care, and Medicaid guidelines and regulations Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance verification, with a minimum of three years of insurance authorization/pre-certification experience Computer experience and the ability to communicate effectively, with bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are preferred: Experience in insurance verification, cash collections, and obtaining Notices of Admission (NOA), with knowledge of insurance plans Prior experience in hospital admissions, with a strong understanding of patient financial services and billing processes Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At blithequark, we are committed to the growth and development of our employees. The schedule will be Monday through Friday, 1pm-9pm, with rotating every other weekend (1pm-9pm Saturday and Sunday) and rotating holidays.
