This 12-week remote internship, running from January 28th to April 17th, 2025, offers a unique chance to make a real impact on our team and develop valuable skills in the field of communications and public relations. About the Communications and Public Relations Department The Communications and Public Relations department at Southwest Airlines plays a vital role in shaping the company's image and messaging. As an intern in this department, you will be working closely with a team of experienced professionals who are passionate about storytelling, media relations, and strategic communications. Your contributions will help us build and maintain a strong brand reputation, engage with our customers and employees, and drive business results through effective communications. Key Responsibilities Attend cross-functional meetings to stay informed about company initiatives and projects Complete special projects that align with the company's goals and objectives Draft blog content, press releases, media pitches, memos, and letters that showcase the Southwest Airlines brand Assist with daily communications on the Southwest Airlines corporate social media channels, including coordinating editorial calendars for online content Update and edit media lists using tools like Cision and Muck Rack to ensure accurate and up-to-date information Participate in event planning, speech preparation, and escorting news crews to provide a seamless experience for our stakeholders Assist with strategic communications planning to drive business results and enhance the company's reputation Be involved in possible travel opportunities to visit our Corporate Campus in Dallas, Texas, and experience the Southwest Airlines culture firsthand Requirements for Success To be considered for this exciting opportunity, you must meet the following requirements: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent education required Must be at least 18 years of age Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986 Must have a valid U.S. Social Security Number to complete the full hiring process Progress towards a degree, major, or minor in Communications, Public Relations, or a similar field Currently enrolled as a full-time student at the time of application and during the internship Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application Excellent oral and written communication skills required Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is required Ability to handle multiple projects under tight deadlines and work well under pressure Must handle confidential and sensitive information with the utmost professionalism Nice-to-Haves While not required, the following skills and experiences are highly desirable: Understanding of the airline/travel industry preferred Possess a strong understanding of how customers and employees use communication channels to communicate with the Southwest Brand Benefits and Compensation As a Communications and Public Relations Spring 2025 Intern with Southwest Airlines, you can expect: Competitive hourly wage of $23 per hour One-time stipend of $1,000 paid in two installments of $500 Free, unlimited travel privileges for yourself (taxes and fees may apply on international travel) Required equipment, such as a laptop, provided for the internship Career Growth and Learning Opportunities This internship is designed to provide you with a comprehensive learning experience, exposing you to various aspects of communications and public relations.
