About the Role of a College Admissions Counselor We are seeking highly motivated and experienced College Admissions Counselors to join our team of dedicated professionals. As a College Admissions Counselor at Empowerly, you will play a vital role in guiding high school students through the college admissions process. Your expertise and passion for education will help students navigate the complexities of college applications, extracurricular activities, and career development. We prefer candidates with years of experience as college counselors or former admissions officers at top colleges, as well as those who have graduated from top 50 colleges with a STEM background. Key Responsibilities Keep up-to-date with current college admission changes and trends Advise students on extracurricular activities that expand their interests and provide leadership opportunities Help students create meaningful summer plans, including internships, competitions, research opportunities, and community service Develop a plan for standardized testing, including strategies for improving scores and deciding which tests are appropriate Guide students in creating college lists, rating colleges, and offering tips for college visits Provide guidance throughout the entire application process, including personal statements, activities, resumes, recommendation letters, essay review, and edits Strategize plans for early action, early decision, regular decision, waitlisted strategies, and college choice guidance Discuss financial aid resources and guidance, as well as merit scholarship resources Prepare for sessions in advance, be on time, log sessions in a timely manner, and maintain a healthy relationship with parents and students Support a wide range of students, including transfer, undergrad, post-graduate, and international students Attend monthly team meetings and utilize resources available within Empowerly to provide optimal advice for all students Minimum Qualifications To be considered for this role, you must: Have graduated from a top 50 national university (advanced degrees like MD, PhD, MBA, JD, or Masters are a plus) Have experience as a college counselor for high school students, with a track record of acceptances into a top 50 national university Have consistent availability in the afternoons (after 3:00 p.m.) and/or on weekends to meet with students Possess a passion for education, talent for teaching, essay writing, and essay editing Have exceptional oral and written communication skills Be able to plan around and meet deadlines Have dedication to client service Be able to commit to students for multi-year packages Preferred Qualifications While not required, we prefer candidates who: Are former admissions officers at top 50 colleges Have experience as independent college counselors (NACAC, WACAC, IECA, etc.) Skills and Competencies To succeed as a College Admissions Counselor at Empowerly, you must possess: Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Excellent time management and organizational skills Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities Strong commitment to customer service and student satisfaction Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At Empowerly, we are committed to the growth and development of our team members.
