We're now seeking an experienced Clinical Support Worker to join our team in the Microbiology Laboratory at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow. About the Role We're excited to offer a unique opportunity to join our team as a Clinical Support Worker (Higher Level) in Microbiology. This role is based at our state-of-the-art laboratory facility at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow, where you'll play a critical part in delivering a comprehensive Microbiology service to the population of Greater Glasgow & Clyde. As a Clinical Support Worker, you'll be responsible for a range of duties, including the collection and preparation of materials and clinical specimens for analysis, registering patient-related information onto the Laboratory Information System, and providing assistance to Biomedical Scientists. Key Responsibilities Collect and prepare materials and clinical specimens for analysis, ensuring safe disposal of clinical waste. Register patient-related information onto the Laboratory Information System or other manual systems. Work within Specimen Reception, dealing with telephone queries from staff from other departments and external agencies. Provide assistance to Biomedical Scientists for the provision of the laboratory service. Perform specific laboratory tests as required. Work as part of the laboratory out of hours system, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays. Essential Qualifications and Skills To be considered for this role, you'll need: 3 Highers at Grade C or above (one of which should include either Chemistry or Biology together with Maths) or SVQ3 in a relevant science subject or equivalent qualification. Completion of modern apprenticeship in life sciences or equivalent accredited education/learning. The ability to achieve the mandatory inductions standards for healthcare support workers in Scotland and comply with the code of conduct throughout your employment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to work as part of a team and demonstrate a flexible and adaptable approach to work. Preferred Qualifications and Skills While not essential, the following qualifications and skills will be considered advantageous: Previous experience in a laboratory setting. Knowledge of laboratory procedures and protocols. Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems. Experience of working in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities. The laboratory is equipped with extensive microbiology equipment, including Vitek-2, Vitek-MS, Virtuo Blood Culture system, WASP/WASPLab, and MGiT TB Analysers.
