About the Role As an Associate Counsel, you'll be responsible for: * Researching laws and preparing legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda to support our defense strategies * Rendering opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department * Preparing and handling pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath * Defending by trial or dispositive hearing, all matters assigned, as applicable * Collaborating with our Claims Department to ensure seamless communication and effective defense strategies * Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of all cases, including documentation of files in a clear, concise, professional written manner Qualifications and Requirements To be successful in this role, you'll need: * A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school * Admission to the New Jersey Bar * 2-6+ years of experience in litigation, with a focus on insurance defense and/or personal injury * Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to quickly grasp complex legal concepts * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders * Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines * Ability to travel as required, including attending trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences * Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable: * Civil litigation experience, particularly in insurance defense-related litigation * Strong knowledge of New Jersey insurance laws and regulations * Experience working with claims adjusters and other stakeholders to develop effective defense strategies * Ability to communicate effectively in person, via telephone, and written correspondence/email Skills and Competencies To succeed in this role, you'll need to possess the following skills and competencies: * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and creatively * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders * Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines * Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, with multiple competing priorities and deadlines * Strong attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accurate and up-to-date records * Ability to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At GEICO, we're committed to helping our associates grow and develop their careers. Compensation, Perks, and Benefits As an Associate Counsel, you'll enjoy a competitive salary range of $116,000.00 - $182,000.00, depending on your experience and qualifications.
