You will work closely with students to identify their strengths and weaknesses, develop customized lesson plans, and provide ongoing support and guidance. Your goal will be to help students build confidence, develop a love of learning, and achieve academic success. **Key Responsibilities** * Prepare for each instructional session by gathering and preparing materials as needed * Greet students and initiate instruction to personally engage each student * Instruct students according to the design of the Sylvan programs * Manage students, tasks, and time to create a balanced and robust instructional session * Evaluate and record the progress of each student on their program assignment * Use praise and encouragement to ensure students are engaged and inspired to learn * Motivate students with Sylvan tokens given for specific achievements according to the Sylvan instructional management standards * Record and track tokens earned by students * Manage the conclusion of each instructional session and manage the completion of learning log and transition activities * Support procedures to ensure student safety and well-being * Communicate specific student needs to Center staff * Attend periodic staff meetings and complete ongoing training as needed * Complete certification training on each Sylvan program taught to students **Essential Qualifications** * Four-year degree or equivalent required * State or provincial teaching credentials preferred (current or expired) * Minimum of one or two years of teaching experience preferred * Knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension preferred for reading teachers * Four-year degree required in a discipline requiring 3 or more years of college-level math for math program teachers * SAT/ACT, Test Prep, and Advanced Reading Skills Teachers: Four-year degree or equivalent preferred **Preferred Qualifications** * Experience working with students of various ages and skill levels * Strong communication and interpersonal skills * Ability to work independently and as part of a team * Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment * Strong organizational and time management skills * Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information **Skills and Competencies** * Strong teaching and mentoring skills * Ability to create a positive and supportive learning environment * Strong communication and interpersonal skills * Ability to work independently and as part of a team * Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment * Strong organizational and time management skills * Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information * Strong knowledge of curriculum and instructional design * Ability to use technology to support instruction and communication **Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits** As a tutor at Sylvan Learning Center of Muskegon, you will have the opportunity to grow and develop your skills and knowledge in a supportive and collaborative environment.
