Environmental Scientist
AECOM is a global infrastructure consulting firm seeking an entry level Environmental Scientist to join their Novi, Michigan office. The role involves supporting the Remediation team with analytical needs for an onsite industrial wastewater treatment facility, conducting environmental field work, and managing data related to environmental compliance. Responsibilities Conducting environmental field work, including collecting soil, groundwater, and remediation system data, groundwater sampling, fluid level gauging and oversight of subcontractors Operations and maintenance of surface water treatment system Manage the outsourcing of analytical samples collected by sampling technicians for environmental compliance Evaluation of analytical data for quality control, quality assurance Application and maintenance of data management software (i.e. LIMs) and maintenance of electronic tools that support functionality of the data management software Collect and enter data and apply technical principles and theories to assist in interpreting and analyzing data Record, analyze, and report data in a timely manner Review analytical reports from contract laboratories Build relationships with contract laboratory contacts to communicate expectations for routine and non-routine analysis Follow proper archiving and document retention and management procedures Work as an engaged team member through weekly collaboration and group meetings to understand analytical and resource needs and challenges Demonstrate personal initiative in proactively meeting all the technical, safety and document management requirements of the job Commit to continuous learning to keep up with changes in protocols, regulations and technology Independently initiate work activities in alignment with project priorities and work through problems to produce quality results Perform field work including environmental sampling work (e.g., groundwater, wastewater, soil, soil-gas sampling) Skills Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, or related field Valid U.S. Driver's License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review and a substance abuse test Due to the nature of work, US citizenship is required Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) Experience with performing organic analysis with capability of same day/next day results Analytical testing (analyzing, data workup/reporting, changing out liquid N2, and instrument maintenance) Experience with environmental sampling techniques Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong chemistry knowledge Understanding of environmental regulations Detail oriented Accessible, flexible and responsive outside of 'normal' working hours to support non-routine events or project needs Fully engaged to work as part of a Team Disciplined and self-driven to meet project deadlines Benefits Medical Dental Vision Life AD&D Disability benefits Paid time off Leaves of absences Voluntary benefits Perks Flexible work options Well-being resources Employee assistance program Business travel insurance Service recognition awards Retirement savings plan Employee stock purchase plan Company Overview AECOM is a global provider of professional technical and management support services to a broad range of markets.
