Electrical Engineer I

Legrand North America is seeking an Electrical Engineer I to join the Wattstopper Team in Carlsbad, CA. The role involves providing engineering support for the design and maintenance of embedded IoT devices, working closely under supervision to assist with various engineering tasks and product improvements. Responsibilities Assist with the electrical design of wired and wireless residential lighting controls Assist with maintaining released product lines with regard to RMAs, product enhancements, cost-outs, and PCBA manufacturability Analyze trending data on RMAs Provide product improvement recommendations to the Quality and Engineering managers Schematic capture and PCB layout Create technical documentation such as drawings, operations and maintenance manuals, installation instructions, work instructions, and product catalogs in support of new product releases Assist with both hardware and firmware product testing Partner with Production, Quality, and Purchasing staff to ensure product manufacturability Provide technical support to other departments for all embedded designs Write Engineering Specifications Assist with defining and executing rigorous verification and validation test plans Assist senior engineers with DFMEAs, design reviews, and project status meetings Contribute to the specification of production test fixtures for new products Collaborate with certification laboratories such as UL, Intertek (ETL), and other various international agencies Skills BS in Electrical Engineering 1-3 years of experience is required Relevant electronics design experience, either in a professional or academic setting Familiarity with low-voltage power distribution equipment Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required up to 10% of the time Schematic and PCB design tools, with Altium Designer being preferred Proficient user of laboratory equipment such as AC/DC power supplies, oscilloscopes, and soldering equipment Embedded microprocessor designs (ARM) SPI, I2C, UART, RS-485, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, USB EMC/EMI Standards and International Safety standards Proficiency with electrical theory in DC and three-phase AC power distribution Exceptional organizational, time management, communications, presentation, and interpersonal skills Knowledge of project management processes and principles Relevant internship/co-op experience preferred Prior experience with Legrand BCS products is a plus Experience with mechanical design is a plus Knowledge of the design and application of lighting control products is a plus Benefits Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage High employer 401K match Paid time off (PTO) and holiday pay Short-term and long-term disability benefit plans Above-benchmark paid maternity and parental leave Bonus opportunities in accordance with the Company’s incentive plans Paid time off to volunteer Active/growing Employee Resource Group network Company Overview Legrand is a global specialist in electrical and digital building infrastructures.
