Transforming Legal Service Delivery at GEICO GEICO's Enterprise Engineering team is on the lookout for a highly skilled and experienced Distinguished Engineer to join our innovative Legal Technology organization. As a Distinguished Engineer, Legal Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical vision and strategy for our legal systems, ensuring they operate with high reliability, responsiveness, efficiency, and compliance. Our Enterprise Engineering team is at the forefront of driving technological advancements across the organization, and the newly formed Legal Technology organization is no exception. This team is dedicated to leveraging technology to enhance legal service delivery, improve operational efficiency, and foster a culture of innovation within the legal department. Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership and Strategy: Provide strategic direction and technical leadership in the continuous improvement and deployment of Legal systems aligned with GEICO's needs and strategy. Architecture Reviews: Serve as the principal lead for architecture reviews involving core people technologies and mission-critical services, ensuring alignment with GEICO's technical vision. Technical Roadmap Development: Build and maintain a technical roadmap that aligns with the Legal Department's stakeholder needs and wants, driving the adoption of emerging technologies and innovative solutions. Full SDLC Leadership: Lead the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including technical research, requirements gathering, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance, ensuring the delivery of high-quality solutions. Stakeholder Communication: Present a clear and compelling vision and technology recommendations to stakeholders with varying degrees of technology fluency, ensuring effective collaboration and buy-in. Collaboration and Mentorship: Foster effective collaboration with cross-functional leaders, including the Legal Department, and mentor junior engineers to ensure associate growth and development. Vendor Management: Manage the technical aspects of vendor relationships and make informed technology adoption recommendations, driving strategic investments in legal and related technologies. Open-Source Contributions: Actively contribute to open-source projects and other communities of practice within GEICO and the industry, promoting innovation and knowledge sharing. Emerging Technologies Evaluation: Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend strategic investments and enhancements in legal and related technologies, driving GEICO's transformation into a tech-centric organization. Qualifications and Requirements Essential Qualifications Proven Technology Leadership: Proven experience in a technology leadership role supporting legal, risk & compliance, regulatory, or similar functions, with a deep understanding of the industry and its challenges. Cloud Computing Expertise: Strong understanding of cloud computing technologies, concepts, security best practices, and compliance standards, with the ability to design and implement scalable and secure solutions. Technical Fluency: Fluency and specialization in at least two modern languages such as GO, Java, Python, and/or Spark, including object-oriented design, with a strong ability to influence engineering direction and product roadmap. Solution Architecture: Experience architecting and developing a mix of custom and third-party solutions to support strategic initiatives, with a focus on driving operational efficiency and automation. Problem-Solving and Analytical Abilities: Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for driving innovation and excellence. Preferred Qualifications Legal Technology Experience: Experience with legal or related technology domains is a plus (e.g., eDiscovery, document and knowledge management, legal workflow automation, AI with legal, CLM, eBilling & matter management, etc.), with a deep understanding of the industry and its challenges. Open-Source Frameworks: 4+ years of experience in open-source frameworks, with a strong ability to contribute to and lead open-source projects. Experience and Education Architecture and Design Experience: 8+ years of experience with architecture and design, with a strong portfolio of successful projects and solutions. Legal Technology Experience: 8+ years of legal, risk & compliance, regulatory, or similar technology experience, with a deep understanding of the industry and its challenges. Professional Software Development Experience: 10+ years of professional software development experience, with a strong ability to lead and mentor junior engineers. Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or equivalent education or work experience, with a strong foundation in computer science and software engineering principles.
