Director, Research Support - School of Public Health

Scheduled Hours 37.5 Position Summary The Director of Research Support for the School of Public Health (SPH), Office of Research Affairs (ORA), reports to the Associate Dean for Research. This role directs comprehensive services for public health and interdisciplinary research within SPH. The director oversees pre-award services by identifying and supporting the submission process for complex, multi-unit grants (e.g., training grants, program projects, center renewals) requiring SPH and cross-university coordination. The director is responsible for post-award research management needed for efficient, high-quality research, which involves developing training, maintaining research tools, and acting as the liaison to central university research support. Key responsibilities include leading oversight and evaluation of ORA activities against the SPH strategic planning goals. Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Directs research services and provides comprehensive support for the development, identification, and management of the submission process for complex, multi-unit grants (e.g., training grants, program projects, center renewals) requiring SPH and cross-university coordination. Directs and provides expertise in post-award research management needed for efficient, high-quality research, which involves strategic oversight of training and capacity building of research faculty and staff, maintaining research tools, and acting as the liaison to central university research support. Oversees systems and technical support and provides guidance for research personnel on internal tools, techniques, and best practices for grants management. Fosters a culture of learning and continuous improvement within the SPH Office of Research Affairs. Provides leadership from ORA in guiding evaluation of research activities against the SPH strategic planning goals. Monitors grant-related policy and submission requirements to ensure up-to-date guidelines for extramural research. Work closely with the Associate Dean to support regular review of research policies and procedures within the SPH. Keeps abreast of new tools and best practices in grant support and research funding requirements. Attends workshops, conferences, and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge. Performs other duties as assigned. More About This Job Required Qualifications Master's degree in public health, social sciences or natural sciences. Eight years of post-graduate experience in directing complex project management in an academic research environment. Eight years of relevant experience including grants administration. Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. and five years of experience in grant management, preferably within a scientific academic or research setting. Proven track record of clinical or public health research administration Preferred Qualifications Education: Ph.D. - Doctor of Philosophy Certifications/Professional Licenses: No additional certification/professional licenses unless stated elsewhere in the job posting. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
