Coding Director

The Doctors Company is seeking a Coding Director. Based on the final candidates distance from a company office this position may be remote or in office. Position Mission This role is responsible for driving innovation in data utilization, coding quality, and process improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety outcomes. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with strong leadership skills to manage staff development, oversee operations, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. Qualifications • A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Health Information Management, or a closely related field is required for this position. Candidates with an advanced degree, such as a Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), or Master of Business Administration (MBA), are strongly preferred. • Applicants must have a minimum of ten years of progressive experience in healthcare data coding, analytics, or patient safety. Of these, at least five years should reflect substantial leadership or management responsibilities. • Significant experience in medical professional liability (MPL), clinical data analysis, or research related to patient safety is highly desirable. • Candidates should also demonstrate a proven track record in leading innovation projects, developing and implementing training programs, establishing quality assurance processes, and driving process improvement initiatives. Responsibilities Product and Service Development • Provides and analyzes requested clinical data sets • Develops unique and meaningful articles and other resources for internal and external publications • Leads training and provides expertise on data utilization and benchmarking • Coordinates research with CMO/physician collaborators • Designs and analyzes closed claims studies to meet department needs/ expectations • Organizes and presents results from claims trends and closed claims studies • Creates reports to identify claim trends • Collaborates with outside partners to improve data utilization Management and Staff Development • Coaches and mentors direct reports and support the overall team to identify and achieve performance and development goals • Works with direct reports to develop creative solutions to complete project action steps and achieve department goals • Communicates constructive feedback to direct reports on performance goals and job performance on a regular basis • Initiates and conducts formal performance reviews/evaluations and provides feedback on a continuous basis • Completes administrative tasks/paperwork required to effectively manage direct reports (e.g. documents performance, completes forms from HR, etc.) • Ensures training and compliance of staff with department guidelines and standards • Develops staff career pathing by setting education and role responsibilities for staff promotions • Designs education presentations for department members, member groups, state seminars, physician advisory boards, and TDC on-demand education programs TDC Technical Knowledge and Professional Development • Ensures all coding staff develop and maintains all necessary knowledge and skills for their respective roles • Maintains technical knowledge and analytic skills to efficiently utilize relevant information systems • Serves on MPLA Data Sharing Committee PS Operations Effectiveness • Oversees quality and use of services data (implements peer review process) Manages the coding databases Supervises coding of claims for quality maintenance • Provides training and expertise on data utilization and benchmarking • Produces reports on key metrics and trends that include action plans related to services, coding speed and agreement • Coordinates the monitoring of the quality data for potential service enhancements or changes Collaborates with other TDC department wit patient safety data needs • Generates and analyzes data to support development of department tools • Works with subsidiaries to enhance and improve coding quality and efficiency Other Duties to be Assigned • Participate in other identified projects and tasks as assigned Salary Range: $90,658 - $118,989 Compensation varies based on skills, knowledge, and education. We consider factors such as specialized skills, depth of knowledge in the field, and educational background to ensure fair and competitive pay.
