Title: Clean Energy & Sustainability Board Member (Global STEM / Youth Empowerment) - Remote Location: Remote - U.S. Based Position Overview RVP Consultants, a global education and innovation organization founded in 2011 and headquartered in the Washington, DC area, is seeking a Clean Energy & Sustainability Board Member and Competition Judge to provide strategic leadership and technical expertise for the Brilliant Global Competitions (BGC) framework. This role will shape the Clean Energy & Sustainability pillar of the Brilliant Global Smart Cities Competition by guiding program direction, contributing to evaluation standards, and ensuring alignment with real-world renewable energy, sustainability, and climate-resilient design principles, while also serving as a judge for national and global finals to evaluate student projects and provide expert feedback that strengthens learning and innovation outcomes. About Brilliant Global Competitions The Brilliant Global Smart Cities Competition is a global STEM initiative that equips high school students with the platform and real-world IoT technology to design and build fully functional smart city models. Through hands-on, project-based learning, students tackle real urban challenges using coding, automation, data analytics, sustainability engineering, and urban planning concepts, developing practical solutions that promote efficiency, resilience, and sustainability. The competition is delivered through a standardized academic framework, trained school coaches, and a defined IoT ecosystem, ensuring consistent, high-quality implementation across participating schools worldwide. As a Board Member, You Will Be Recognized and Appreciated Through: • Global Recognition: Your profile was featured across national competitions in multiple countries and at the Global Finals in Washington, D.C. • Expert-Profile Visibility: Opportunities to serve as a panelist or expert speaker alongside international leaders and industry experts. • Official Board Appointment: Formal title as BGC Board Member—Clean Energy & Sustainability, with an appreciation certificate and public listing on the BGC website. • Media & Branding Exposure: Recognition across official websites, press releases, social media, and partner communications. Key Responsibilities As a Board Member (Strategic Role): • Provide strategic guidance to the Brilliant Global Competitions (BGC) leadership team on Clean Energy & Sustainability program direction. • Advise on the integration of renewable energy, sustainability, and climate-resilient design principles into the competition framework and curriculum. • Support long-term program vision aligned with global sustainability priorities Advise on the development of evaluation standards, learning outcomes, and innovation benchmarks related to clean energy and sustainability. • Participate in periodic advisory meetings (based on availability) and strategic planning sessions (virtual or in-person). • Act as an ambassador for the BGC program within clean energy, sustainability, and climate innovation networks. As a Competition Judge (National & Global Finals in 2027): • Review and evaluate student smart city projects with a focus on clean energy, sustainability, and environmental performance. • Assess real-world applicability of renewable energy and sustainability solutions. • Provide constructive, expert-level feedback to student teams to strengthen learning outcomes and technical growth. • Score projects based on defined evaluation criteria, including energy efficiency, sustainability impact, and scalability. • Participate in national and/or global finals judging panels (based on availability). • Support mentorship-style engagement by offering insights into industry best practices and future career pathways. Required Qualifications Candidates should meet most of the following criteria: • A degree in Sustainability, Renewable Energy, or a related field (PhD preferred) in: • 5+ years of professional experience in Sustainability and Renewable Energy: • Experience evaluating technical projects, research initiatives, and innovation challenges. • Familiarity with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ESG frameworks, or national sustainability strategies. • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into accessible feedback for students and educators. • Passion for education, youth empowerment, and global innovation. Preferred Experience (Nice to Have) • Prior experience as a judge, mentor, or advisor in STEM competitions, hackathons, or innovation challenges. • Experience working with K–12, higher education, or workforce development programs.
