About the position The Department of Corrections at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Benner Township is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Chaplaincy Program Director to oversee the administration of a diverse interfaith religious services program within the institution's religious services department. This role involves showcasing leadership qualities and impressive management skills while offering spiritual guidance to individuals from all faith backgrounds. The position is full-time, requiring 37.5 hours per week, with work hours from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday. Responsibilities • Oversee the management of religious activities and the chaplaincy department. • Serve inmates of various faiths and administer appropriate sacraments. • Conduct rites and ceremonies for inmates aligning with your faith tradition. • Facilitate primary religious gatherings for inmates sharing your broader faith tradition. • Supervise similar provisions for inmates of different faiths. • Conduct rounds throughout the facility. • Provide spiritual and grief counseling to any inmate interested, irrespective of their spiritual or religious beliefs. Requirements • One year as a Chaplain (Commonwealth title); or • Three years of professional pastoral experience that includes one year in an institutional or specialized setting and a bachelor's degree; or • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of professional pastoral experience in an institutional or specialized setting. • Documentation from an officially sanctioned faith group stating authorization to conduct worship/sacred services. • Completion of the Correctional Chaplains Training Course within six months of hire. • Maintenance of credentials with an officially sanctioned faith group on an annual basis. • One unit of clinical pastoral education or equivalent specialized training. • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA. • Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
