Beauty Writer, The Strategist
Description • Shape the voice of the internet’s most trusted shopping guide. The Strategist, Vox Media’s product-recommendation engine, is looking for a Beauty Writer who can spot a breakout serum before it trends, decode dermatologist jargon into delightful prose, and test 27 lipsticks without ever losing their sense of humor. • Own the entire beauty pipeline—from pitch to performance. You’ll conceive, report, write, and refresh stories that help millions of readers decide what deserves space on their vanities and in their budgets. Expect a mix of quick-turn reviews, deep-dive ingredient explainers, celebrity-roulette interviews, and data-driven gift guides that surface again every holiday like clockwork. • Become the in-house oracle on all things skin, hair, makeup, fragrance, body, and wellness. You’ll monitor Reddit threads, TikTok derms, K-beauty launches, and indie labs so our coverage is always one step ahead, never recycled PR. • Test products like a scientist and describe them like a best friend. You’ll patch-test retinoids on your own face, swatch 12 foundations on three arm shades, and still file copy that is accurate, inclusive, and compulsively readable. • Collaborate with editors, SEO strategists, social gurus, and the art team to package stories that win Google, dominate Facebook mom groups, and look gorgeous in Instagram carousels. You’ll jump on morning Slack huddles to decide whether “face icing” deserves 400 words or 4,000. • Mine analytics to understand what converts—and what doesn’t. You’ll track affiliate revenue, click-through rates, and return readers, then iterate headlines, top-of-page cart modules, and email subject lines until the numbers sing. • Champion diversity in every paragraph. That means shade-range call-outs, gender-neutral language, price-point inclusivity, and expert sources who actually represent the audiences we serve. • Mentor freelancers and junior staff. You’ll hand out razor-sharp edits, build a stable of derms, chemists, estheticians, and cosmetic chemists on speed-dial, and make sure every outside byline meets our standards before it hits the CMS. • Keep the commerce engine humming. You’ll refresh evergreen guides before big sale moments (Prime Day, Black Friday, Dermstore’s Friends & Family) and parachute into breaking news like a Sephora bankruptcy or sunscreen recall without ever sounding like a press-release robot. • Represent The Strategist at brand events, on podcasts, and in cross-vertical brainstorms. One week you’re on the Today show talking “best drugstore moisturizers,” the next you’re in a studio shooting a TikTok that demystifies acids for Gen-Z. • Protect editorial integrity with ferocity. You’ll say no to sponsored fluff, disclose every free facial, and maintain a firewall between church (editorial) and state (revenue) so readers trust us more than their own derms. Apply tot his job
