Audience Development Manager (Fully Remote Contract)
About Recurrent’s Military Brands Recurrent Military is home to a portfolio of powerhouse brands including Task & Purpose, The War Zone, and We Are The Mighty — each serving passionate, informed, and loyal military and defense communities. We're looking for a dynamic audience marketer with a strong editorial instinct at Task & Purpose, who can help us expand and deepen our relationship with our audiences, understanding the nuances between platforms. Since this role is rooted in audience insight– knowing what resonates with, informs, and inspires our audiences– the ideal candidate will have technical expertise in email and social media strategy and also possess a fluency in the culture and news that is important to the community we serve. You’ll work with the editorial team at Task & Purpose to ensure that every email and social post reflects the voice, values, and realities of our audience.You’ll be responsible for building and deploying all editorial email campaigns via Beehiiv, pitching to syndication platforms, as well as deploying and optimizing social media for platforms including Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, TikTok, Bluesky, and Discord. This part-time role requires sharp journalistic instincts, platform fluency, a deep understanding of how to grow and interact with social audiences, and the ability to translate each publication’s tone and reporting into compelling content. A military background is a plus. Responsibilities Email Marketing (Beehiiv) • Build, manage, and deploy editorial emails, as well as dedicated client campaigns for Task & Purpose • Collaborate with EIC to craft subject lines, test content, and optimize performance. • Monitor KPIs (open rates, CTRs, list growth) and iterate based on data insights. Social Media • Own content scheduling and re-share programs. • Translate breaking news, longform content, and features into scroll-stopping social posts that resonate with military and defense audiences. • Work closely with editors and writers to ensure content tone aligns with brand voice. Qualifications • 3–5 years experience in digital media, email marketing, or social media management (preferably for a news, military, or enthusiast brand). • Demonstrated success with email platforms (Beehiiv experience strongly preferred). • Proven ability to manage social media for a media brand — especially Twitter/X, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. • Deep understanding of military culture, current events, and defense/military news. • Exceptional copywriting and editorial skills with strong attention to detail. • Comfortable using analytics tools to assess performance and inform strategy. • Thrives in a collaborative, fast-moving environment with a high standard for editorial integrity and accuracy. Preferred Qualifications • Experience working in or adjacent to newsrooms or editorial teams. • Familiarity with audience development tools like Google Analytics, Chartbeat, or social listening platforms.
