Attorney (Labor Relations Counsel)
California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) is seeking an Attorney (Labor Relations Counsel) to join their legal division. The role involves litigating administrative hearings, providing in-house counsel on employment matters, and conducting workplace investigations while maintaining a work-life balance with hybrid telework options. Responsibilities Perform legal work of average difficulty with increased independence and responsibility Provide representation of CalHR and other state departments in various areas of labor and employment law on matters of average difficulty Conduct training, perform workplace investigations, and consult and draft legal opinions for high level executives on sensitive issues and projects Argue writs, motions, and appeals in civil court Mentor more junior attorneys throughout your tenure at CalHR Skills CA State BAR License Knowledge of and experience in labor and/or employment law Litigation experience, including administrative litigation Current version of the State Examination/Employment Application STD Form 678 or the Electronic State Employment Application Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) responding to numbered items Experience and Education relating to the Minimum Qualifications listed on the Classification Specification Excellent written and oral communication skills Practical experience in litigation before superior or federal courts, and/or administrative agencies Experience in labor and employment law, and administrative law Knowledge of the law and abilities in legal research and analysis Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment Company Overview The California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) was created on July 1, 2012, by Governor Brown's Reorganization Plan Number 1 of 2011.
